Introducing the Copper Widow Distillery
We are excited to announce that in addition to whiskey tastings, experiences, and education, the Copper Widow brand has expanded to a fully licensed distillery!
The distillery has a bonded warehouse in Lubbock, Texas, where we have set aside a stock of sourced whiskey. And we are working with family, friends, and investors to expand in the future.
As one of our first learning experiences, we've also bottled a pilot release— Copper Widow Paradox Straight Bourbon! It is a 4-year-old Straight Bourbon at 100 proof (50% ABV).
We're happy to welcome you to our journey and look forward to sharing future updates!
The pilot release has a 4 year age statement and is presented at 50% ABV (100 proof). The mash bill is listed on the bottle and is 75% corn, 21% Rye and 4% malt.
The color is a rich amber with a blush of red. The viscosity falls somewhere in the mid-range being not terribly thin, it clings to the glass just a bit, but is not oily.
It has a classic Bourbon's bright nose with oak and brown sugar caramel. Breaking through in the background is a hint of evergreen – pine or Juniper.
On first sip the whiskey is medium bodied and obviously a Bourbon. It has a classic sweetness, in this case reminiscent of table sugar. It continues with a hint of halloween caramels, but not cloyingly so. A hit of White pepper hints at the impact of the Rye and barrel spice. It rings through the finish as a tingle on the lips and tongue.
The medium finish is dry and tannic. It lays down just a bit of menthol to cool the mouth, tingle the lips, and is of medium length.
Copper Widow Paradox Straight Bourbon is a simple and classic craft Bourbon. At 50% ABV it will appeal to Bourbon enthusiasts, but may strike newer palates as being a bit hot.
Paradox is Copper Widow's sourced spirits product line. The Straight Bourbon is from North Carolina, aged a short time and adjusted for proof in Lubbock, then bottled in Houston by Drop of the Creator Spirits.
